What do you see?

and I, consigned

by a pear-breasted nonesuch

to these slate-marred and bladed fields

to these treeless plains, lately fecund

the night a gaping mouth, whelming

every are like every are

precise, qualified, and unremarkable

the grasses dry, the founts dry, the lines fruitless

the world frigid, and indifferent to my witching

the holy oils remain stopped and unused

no stone sits upon another

there is here no betel from which to build

In the first times the waters covered the world. But for this mount, this holy place, this pillar, this communion, this breach, this sacred height, this gate, this temple, which rose first from out the waters.

but for one

brought out from within shadow and sheets

behind, within, a devouring thing

and a making thing

a thing both making and devouring
