Windows in Passolini's Salò (a Brief Note)

– November 15, 2013

In the film, there are three major scenes involving windows, which can be read as presenting that there are only three options for an individual in their engagement with the state (that is, tyrrany in whatever form):

Suicide
be it physical, intellectual, or spritual

Complicity
seen in the participatory view through the binoculars, and the film speaks how the victims are equally complicitous in the political and commercial power structures

Open Combat
seen in the woman watching the U.S. bombers passing overhead
